Connecting fire simulation data to thermal feedback in virtual reality.

Research question

How can a simulated fire drive physically meaningful thermal cues?

Approach

Fire Dynamics Simulator provides a physical description of a fire environment. This work links simulation data with thermal haptic feedback in virtual reality.

The central implementation problem is how to translate a spatially varying simulated environment into feedback available at a physical interface.

My contribution

Built the Fire Dynamics Simulator–Unity pipeline to translate fire conditions into spatially varying thermal feedback, alongside thermal-device prototyping.

Connection to my broader work

Physically grounded simulation was a starting point for asking how much physical detail a convincing experience actually needs.
